I am planning on starting a DotA Tournament. 5v5 Dota tourney, cm mode. 20 dollar entry fee. 100 dollar for winning team. If I get enough replies here of interested people, I'll start organizing.

Good luck with this. We haven't usually done Dota in the past, simply because it requires a lot of people (you'd need at least 5-6 teams to make it worthwhile, and that's already 25+ people), those large numbers of people have to be coordinated and organized (it's not 30 1s, it's 6 5s, which is much harder to find) and we've seen larger interest in other games.

But still, if you'd like any advice from the things we've learned from the online SC tournament, or any questions at all, feel free to ask any of us.

But not Jordan, he has a personal vendetta against DotA. Why? Nobody knows!

Alright, I'll see what happens. The main thing is, if you get posters up, I'm sure lots of people will join. But not enough people on this forum plays dota.

Are you asking us to put up posters?

Fixed it for you.

As for the Dota tourney i would interested in helping. However if i remember correctly you need to create the posters/make copies of them. as far as posting goes we can help you by giving you direction on what to do and maybe getting some volunteers to help posting, since this this event was not a planned event by the gamers club we really don't have any obligation to help. (though there are some people that would really like to see this tourney such as myself)

Well looking at this audience base, I don't think we'll have much of a tourny...

Just remember that this is not a good representation of the entire population of UW. it is kinda late in the term to start planning. This may more success in the upcoming terms

trigun0x2: please clarify if you are running your own DotA tournament and are looking for entrants, if you would like to assist in running a DotA tournament with us, would like us to run a DotA tournament for you, or would like us to advertise for you.

Anyway, I know that there are some people who keep bugging me about a DotA tournament in the future. If someone gives me a full list of rules (in a presentable form, not point form) along with suggested entrance fee / prizes I will put up a pre-registration form and advertise it right after/during the LAN event. If we get enough people who are willing to join a tournament next term, then we can do one.

For the rules, basically I need entrance fees, number of people per team, any specific rules/maps/banned things that contestants need to know about.

This should become standard process for event suggestions.

I would say:
5v5
-cm mode
Entrance fee I would say about 25/team is good. (No experience in this, so this is negotiable). [MIKENOTE: entrance fee is tbd if we go with this tournament]
I would think refs for the playoff are necessary.

Basic Rules:

2.1 Bug using may result in a Default loss.

2.2 Creep skipping/backdooring is forbidden. This means you are not allowed to attack towers or other buildings without creep support.

2.3 "Creep support" means that the tower is in range of attacking creeps - even if the creeps do not choose to attack the tower or vice versa.

2.4 You are allowed to attack any building in enemy base if there are friendly creeps in the base when you entered. You do not have to leave/stop attacking if all creeps are dead. E.g - creeps enter the top entrance of base and start attacking the tower/barracks. You [color=green]can enter the base by any entrance and attack any building as long as you entered while creeps were in the base. You may stay as long as you want.

2.5 Only two Mekansms per team.

2.6 Only one Necronomicon per team.

2.7 Maximum of two euls/guinsoos per team.

2.8 A team is not allowed to buy items for other players, but sharing healing/clarity potions, tangos, ring of health/regeneration, gem of truesight, wards, voidstone, sobimask, Bottle, Perserverance and a courier is allowed. Be careful during sharing because you can accidently build recipe items.

2.9 You can use other heros to buy your items as long as you use your money and they are not used by this hero.

2.10 Completely closing the entrance to either base using earthshakers fissure is forbidden.
