Wed July 14 – Game On

We’re having a mostly low-key game on tomorrow (Wednesday July 14th) in MC 2038 from 5pm until whenever we feel like packing up. We’ll probably be around until 7 at least, but no later than 10pm. Bring a few games of your own that you’d like to play or just come and enjoy our variety of multiplayer games, it should be some amount of fun.

Here’s the planning forum discussion for this event if you’re interested in that.

Game On Summer '10 poster

Sat. June 26th – LAN Event

June 26, 2010

This is just the calendar posting, for event information see the real post about the LAN event

LAN Event v.Spring.2010

Our LAN event is coming up, it’ll be in RCH 307 from 10am until midnight on Saturday June 26th. Instead of wasting your Saturday playing computer games in your dorm/basement/box, come on out to the LAN event and waste your Saturday by playing computer games with other people (not those fake online people either)!

Basic information

The event will start at 10am. We’ll be ordering in Pizza for lunch and dinner (unless someone has another easy meal suggestion). Lunch will be at noon, and Dinner will be around 7pm. Bring a bit of money, each pizza slice should be between $1.00 – $1.50, and we’ll be selling pop for $0.50 per can (energy drinks for $0.75/can).

Games

We’ll be playing a ton of different games all day. Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Starcraft and Defense of the Ancients have all proven to be pretty popular. At 12:30pm, we’ll be organizing a giant game of Tribes 2. Tribes 2 is a fairly old game, and is now free. Everyone should be able to play it, even with an older laptop that your brother used to have but it was too slow for him so he got a better computer and gave the laptop to you.

Computers aren’t provided, ethernet cables are hard to come by

We won’t be providing computers at the event, so remember to bring your own! Ethernet cables are also fairly important, otherwise we’d just have a LA and that’s only 67% as amazing. Please bring one for yourself, and bring any extras if you have them, those who forget their cables will appreciate it!

Play2MorallyWin: help us out at the event

If you’d like to help us out by bringing equipment or setting up, post about it in the planning topic on our forums. If for some reason this whole post is not informative enough, we have more elaborate information on the LAN page.

Still interested?

If you’ve read all of this information, click here to let us know you’re coming. Having a rough idea of how many people want to show up can be pretty useful.

TF2 Nights are awesome and somewhat PC game related

We have a Steam Group, and hold TF2 nights every Monday at 9pm. Join the steam group chatroom and explode some other UW Gamers members.

SPRING 2010 EVENT SURVEY

Spring term is coming up and we want to hear from you. Have a neat idea for an event? Want to see something new? Have your say here . The major suggestions so far have been some form of Mario kart, DotA, or a console FPS. We need a large interest in game before we can consider holding event. Not here during the summer? Add your opinion and we will consider it for the fall term! Have friends who play games but are not part of the mailing list/club/whatever. Tell them to go over and add their opinion! What are you waiting for?
PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT SUGGEST EVENTS THAT ALREADY HAPPEN EACH TERM. YES, WE KNOW YOU LIKE BRAWL ONLY ONE TOURNEY PER YEAR!

Omegathon! Tu Feb 23, 5:00pm, SLC MPR

The Omegathon is a tournament that involves a wide variety of different games, it is free to enter, and the winner gets a $50 gift certificate to Future Shop!

We will have many different games in the Multi-Purpose Room in the SLC at 5:00pm on Tuesday February 23rd, you can come and sign up then. The games will start at 5:30pm. You’ll play games against the other people who registered. If you win, you get points. The top players will advance until we end with one winner.

If you’re interested in coming to this event, please click this link to let us know. Having a rough estimate of how many people are coming is very useful.

Here is a partial list of games that you can look forward to playing:

  • Metroid Prime – Echoes
  • New Super Mario Bros Wii: Coin Mode
  • Star Fox Assault
  • Ikaruga
  • Donkey Konga 1 or 2
  • F-Zero GX
  • Mario Golf 64
  • Lumines
  • Trackmania
  • Kirby 64: Crystal Shards
  • Worms
  • Tomeno Sanner

The last man standing / fastest time / highest score in each game determines the winner in that event.

Format
We’ll start off with an open round where anyone may enter. Eventually we’ll move to round 2 where the top 16 players move on, then onto round 3 where the top 8 go. Points from rounds 1-3 are cumulative, so if you do well in the beginning you have more leeway towards the end.

Round 4 is only the top 4 people, and the top two in this round robin will advance. The finals will be a best 2 out of 3 of highly secret games known only by the Omegathon committee.

The planning topic on our forums is a good resource if you want to know more information.
