LAN event!

So we are having a LAN event sometime next month and we would like your input on the date. We always run into complaints that we sometimes schedule LANs (see LAN after Sky rim release……whoops). So we have tentatively set the date, for the 24th of November. We would like to find out if that date would work for you guys, as well as a couple other questions we have for you. If you could take the time to fill this survey, we would greatly appreciate it. As always you can go discuss this on our forums. We will keep the survey open for about a week.

GAME ON! Console Gaming Event – Tues OCT 23rd

Another term, another Game On event!

For our noobs out there, Game On is an event where we book out a room and some TVs and allow for some good ol local console gaming.

Traditionally, it’s a bring your own console affair, bring in whatever you think will be the most fun to play with everyone.

Outpouring for people bringing in console has been pretty great already, and hopefully you’ll be able to participate, even if it’s bringing in an extra controller, fight stick, or the latest game you’ve been playing, it’d be much appreciated. I’ll try my best to accommodate, but if you really want to have your system there, come early. I can have only so many TVs!

Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, or our forums if you’re bringing anything, so we can gauge exactly how much we’ll need to prepare on this end!

Just coming out would be all you need though. We can always use another person to play a game of Halo, Smash Bros, Mario Party, Street Fighter, MVC3, etc. Whatever you feel like and whatever you bring in, that is what we’ll be playing!

It is scheduled for 5:00 pm – 12:00 on October 23rd, in the SLC Great Hall. It’s the big space near the Turnkey Desk, with all the couches and such.

If you can come out earlier, I will need some help to bring TVs from the AV room to the Great Hall around 4 pm, it’d be much appreciated!

First Meeting Today!

Hi everyone,

On behalf everyone at UWG, I wold like to say welcome to the fall 2012 term. We have are going to have some awesome events this term, so let’s get into it.

First off this Monday we are going to have our first general meeting. We are going to go over what sort of events we have this term, get some input on our events as well hear suggestions for other ones. Of course it is not mandatory to make it, and we will try to post details on our forums. It’s at 5:30pm in RCH 307 on September 24th (today)

Our DotA 2 tournament signups are still going on, meaning you have lots of time to get a team together and play. Once again it is free to enter, but you must be able to make the finals at Bison’s Auto Shop (100 Lodge St. Waterloo), on November 10th. You can sign up at http://tinyurl.com/uwgdota2 , and if you need extra players, go look at http://tinyurl.com/uwgincomplete (Please note that this page will be updated as often as we can, if you can’t find someone right away check back later). If you need to look at the rules or have questions go to http://uwgamers.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=24 , or just email us back.

Finally next weekend we would like to have an online weekend gaming event. We would like to jump on our mumble server and play some games! We will try to start around 2 pm and go until we just can’t go anymore. Hopefully you can get some good enjoyment out of a couple game sessions. You will need to get the mumble client installed and set up. The info for the server is: Address 209.15.226.35, port 6412. If you need an admin contact Panzerninja (http://steamcommunity.com/id/panzerninja) on steam. We will get a complete list of admins ASAP.

Finally if you want to get some more info about event planning or what other people are playing you can join our forums, our Facebook page, and our twitter (all linked on the tabs above). Other than that I hope to get some good gaming fun going!

LAN Event, Saturday March 24, 11am-midnight, M3 1006

Tomorrow, Saturday March 24th, is our LAN event! It is going to be held in M3 1006. That’s the large lecture hall in the new Math building. Bring out your laptop or desktop (as well as an ethernet cord!) and have some fun and maybe walk away with free things.

The event starts at 11am and will run until midnight. Throughout the day we’ll be playing all sorts of PC games from Starcraft to League to TF2 to DotA. There’s room for more obscure games too (especially if they’re free!), there will probably be people willing to play with you.

There will also be tournaments and raffles throughout the day, and there’s no entry fee! There will be a Warsow 1v1 tournament at around 1pm for all of you people who like gun shooty games. Then there will be a Starcraft II tournament in the evening (around 6pm) for those who like clicky man games. Winning these will net you $30 in Steam credit, as well as a sense of accomplishment and the admiration of at least one person in the room.

You will get a raffle ticket just for showing up, and there will be raffles throughout the day. Having your number drawn will get you about $10 in some fashion (Future Shop, Riot Points, Steam Credit), or possibly a DotA 2 key.

We’ll have pizza available around lunch and dinner time for $1.50/slice, and pop will be available all day for $0.50/can.

Come on out and have some fun, you’re a great person who has been working very hard and you deserve a break.

LAN Event. Sat Nov 12, RCH 307. 11am-midnight.

We’re holding another LAN Event in RCH 307 this Saturday, November 12th. Bring your computer and an ethernet cable and play video games with us for a bunch of the day.

We’ll be starting at 11am, and will be going essentially all day. There will be pizza and pop available to purchase, $0.50/pop, $1.50/pizza slice. The pizza should show up around lunch time and dinner time. Unfortunately we don’t take credit card or watcard as payment, so you might want to prepare beforehand and grab some cash.

Game Preparation
If you have the bandwidth to spare, you can come to the LAN event completely prepared by installing games! We’ll be trying to get some free games going, so by downloading and installing them now you save time later.

  • Warsow, a Quake 3 Arena-like game
  • Urban Terror. It’s some kind of counter strike of duty warfare game and is free, so why not?
  • Tribes 2 (via TribesNext). It’s abandonware that has been picked up by the community, we’d like to get this going if we have enough people
  • Lix is 8 player Lemmings. Kind of fun I suppose
  • There’s also soldat but it looks like it comes packaged with some kind of spyware and we don’t want to inflict that on everyone if we can avoid it.

Any other free games that are multiplayer and don’t get played too often are welcome!

There’s also the “big” free to play games which you should also have installed:
Team Fortress 2
League of Legends

If you can’t spare the bandwidth, we should have a DC++ server setup at the event so you can quickly get copies of these games.

Game Night Tonight. Tues Nov 8. SLC MPR, L4D1 & Guitar Hero

We’re running another Game Night tonight (Tuesday Nov 8)in the SLC Multi-Purpose room, which is attached to the Great Hall. It’ll run from 7pm until 10pm. The focus will be on Guitar Hero (and also other similar plastic instrument games), as well as Left 4 Dead 1.

If you have any copies of random music games that don’t require a lot of equipment, feel free to bring them. If you want to bring your own music stuff that’s fine too, but we don’t expect anyone to do this.

As far as Left 4 Dead 1 goes, you’ll need to bring your own laptop/ethernet cable, we will have a way to get everyone networked together in the room.

Meeting Today (Nov 3), RCH 205, 5:30pm

Just a quick reminder that there’s a meeting today in RCH 205 at 5:30pm.

We’re going to go over information for the LAN Event, League of Legends tournament finale stuff (the tournament emails are going out in the next few hours), Game Night on Tuesday next week, and anything else we can think of!

The room can be a bit tricky to find, but fortunately there are maps and vague directions. Don’t get too lost!

Fighting Game Casuals / Anime Fighting! Sat. Oct 29th, 4pm+, SLC Great Hall

This Saturday, October 29th, we’re hosting some (Anime) Fighting Game Casuals in the SLC Great Hall from 4pm until midnight. There’s going to be a distinct lack of Street Fighter and Marvel at this event, the focus will be be on all sorts of different games which tend to be very anime for some reason. You can look forward to:

  • Melty Blood: Actress Again
  • BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2
  • Arcana Heart 3
  • Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core
  • Hokuto No Ken
  • Capcom Vs SNK 2
  • King of Fighters 2002

This event will be fairly casual, no scheduled tournaments or anything like that (but there could be spur of the moment ones!). Come by and play some video games. We’ll have some extra sticks available, but of course it’s much easier if you bring your own controller.

If you like these kinds of games, there’s a group of 5-10 people who get together a couple times a week and play these games with each other. There’s a “Fighting Game Casuals” thread on our forums where you can see the planning. If you’re interested in finding more people to play with, you don’t have to look too far.

If you’re a fan of Street Fighter or Marvel, don’t feel left out! We’re running a tournament on November 26th with the people from Bison’s Auto Shop. There’s no official stuff up yet, but it will exist in the next week or two.

We originally had a Battlefield 3 Event scheduled in this (Oct 29th) slot, however it had to be cancelled due to unfortunate last minute circumstances (which you can read all about on our forums if you’re curious!).

LAN Event, Sat. Oct 15th, 11am-midnight, RCH307

The LAN event is here! If you’ve come out to our LAN events before it’s the same deal as always. Bring your own computer and ethernet cable, show up and play some games. As far as games go, you can look forward to League of Legends, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Starcraft 2, and a whole bunch of others.

Feel free to drop by whenever you want, we’ll be around all day.

The event is pretty casual, if you want to play something just ask the room and see if you can get something started. If you like a more obscure game that requires a whole lot of people, you might want to talk to us and we can try to work something out.

We’ll have pizza and pop available most of the day, bring some cash it’s probably good for you. If you have extra power bars or extension cables, please bring them if it isn’t too much of a hassle. We can always use more stuff to hook people together at the event.
