Melee & Brawl Tournaments – Pre-register now!

Next week we are running TWO Smash Bros. tournaments in the SLC Great Hall, just in time before exams! On Monday December 7th at 12:30PM we will be hosting a Smash Bros. Brawl tournament. The next day, Tuesday December 8th at 12:30PM, we will be hosting a Smash Bros. Melee tournament.

Pre-register for the tournaments by clicking here!

Both tournaments will be run using ‘standard’ tournament rules, this means only certain stages, no items, 3 stock for Brawl and 4 stock for Melee. For a more elaborate explanation of the rules, see the Brawl rules here and the Melee rules here.

The tournament will be Swiss style like our other tournaments, lose three times and you’re out. You will always play someone with the same win/loss record as you.

Entrance to each tournament is $5. Pre-registering helps us know how many people are going to show up, and it helps us sort out the prizes. I’m sure you wouldn’t like to recieve an IOU or many $5 gift cards instead of a single large one. Pre-register and avoid that problem!

Pop will be available at the event for 50 cents per can.

Helping out with hardware is appreciated. If you have any copies of the game, gamecube controllers or consoles that we can use for the event, please let us know in the planning topic on our forum. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please ask us in that planning topic.

As always, if you want to stay current with the club’s events, you can check out our forums, join our mailing list, or use any other news method we provide along the top of the page (RSS) (Twitter) (Facebook).

UW Gamers LAN Party

Tomorrow we’re having the UW Gamers LAN Party!

Saturday, November 28th.
RCH 307
10am to 10pm

If you’re planning on coming, here are a few tips for you before you do! Please read over this!

Things you should bring:

DESKTOP supplies: (for those bringing a desktop computer)
1) Your computer + power cable
2) Your monitor + power cable
3) Power bar (don’t assume that there will be 2 power outlets just waiting for you)

LAPTOP supplies: (for those bringing a laptop computer)
1) Your laptop
1a) A laptop lock
2) Your power cord (label it!)
3) A power bar anyway! Sure, you only use one outlet, but if you can’t find a free outlet, you’re out of luck. Bring a power bar!

OTHER THINGS:
4) A mouse (and mousepad)
5) Headphones
6) Your longest network cable (label it!). With a 25 foot cable, you shouldn’t have any problems plugging in. Wireless will be provided as an option, but do you really want to do that?
7) Games! If you have a favourite game and want others to play it, bring your install CD
8) Money! We’re going to have some food/beverages available for nominal cost.

GET PREPARED:
1) Update your games with latest patches
2) Keep a copy of all those patches for those who forget to do item 1
3) Install DC++ ( http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/ ) We’ll set up a server for it and it will be the main IRC chat channel. It’s also a file transfer system for sharing those patches from item 2. This will be much easier than moving USB sticks around. For sharing those files, it has to hash everything beforehand, so setting it up tonight is a good idea.
4) Label your belongings! If anything is left over at the end, UW Gamers will hold on to it, but it would be nice to know who owns it.

That’s all!

See everyone tomorrow.

LAN Event Pre-registration, Warrior Weekends Nov 13th 9pm

Our LAN event is taking place on November 28th in RCH 307 from 10am to midnight. Pre-registration for the event is now open, it will allow us to know how many people are coming, and what games they’d like to play. Pre-registering makes running the event more predictable for us, which means you get to have a better event! Additional planning information for this event can be found on our forums here.

Pre-register for the event by clicking here!

On November 13th we’re helping out with Warrior Weekends in the SLC Great Hall. Officially, the event starts at 9pm. Unofficially, we will be there starting at 5pm playing all sorts of games.

For those that don’t know what Warrior Weekends is, they run events in the SLC every two to three weeks, and everything there is free with your watcard. You can find more Warrior Weekends information at their website.

Every half hour during the event (starting at 9pm), we are going to have a featured game with a skill challenge. Play and we record your score or time (depending on the game). At the end of the half hour period, the person with the highest score / time / whatever will win a $20 gift certificate to Game Stop.

Fight On – Nov 2 – SLC Great Hall – 5pm

Tomorrow (November 2nd), Fight On will be from 5pm until midnight in the SLC Great Hall. There will be free play on every TV for the first hour, and then mini-tournaments will start. We expect the mini tournaments to take up 4 TVs when they’re running, but midway through each tournament the TVs will open up once again. We should have 6 TVs there, plus a few extra monitors.

Tournament rules can be found here: (CLICK ME). If you’ve been to our events before, you should know how it works. Otherwise, it’s essentially double elimination after best two our of three.

Registration begins a half hour before the tournament starts. Please get there early, as the faster everyone registers, the faster the tournaments can begin. We would like everything to run on time, so after a certain point we will be cutting off registration and starting the tournaments.
