Online Starcraft Tournament – Registration is open until Nov 1

We’re running an online Starcraft tournament this term, and registration is now open until November 1st! Even if you haven’t played in a while, this is a pretty good excuse to get the game out and start playing.

Signup by clicking here!Full rules can be found here!

We know not everyone is of an equal skill level, and so we’re holding two tournaments. One for beginners, and one for advanced players. There are guidelines in our rules about whether you are a beginner or advanced player, but a good general rule is if you could potentially consider yourself an advanced player in the eyes of most people, you are probably advanced. The prize for winning the Advanced tournament is a $35 gift certificate, while the Beginner prize is $15. As long as the store that you want the gift certificate from is close enough in Waterloo we will get it for you. You can also accept the prize in WatCard money.

Once the tournament starts, you will have between a week to two weeks to complete your matches against your opponent. Matches are best two out of three games. Matches will be played on iCCup, unless agreed upon otherwise. In order to connect to iCCup, please see http://www.iccup.com/starcraft/sc_start.html

It is the winner’s responsibility to report the win. If both players report they won, we will request replays of the match and settle it that way. If you accuse your opponent of cheating or not obeying the rules, you must provide a replay to prove it. Replays will be judged by a highly professional panel of judges (club members).

The maps that you will play your matches on are Heartbreak Ridge, Outsider and Shades of Twilight. Other maps may be played if the two parties agree to it.

Music On – Mon Oct 19, SLC Great Hall, 5pm

Music On is very close, it’s happening on Monday October 19th from 5pm until midnight in the SLC Great Hall. There won’t be a shortage of music games, so come on by.

All sorts of music games from Guitar Hero to Pop’n music will be there. VS modes will also make an appearance. The Wii version of Guitar Hero 5 has a DS battle mode, and that will also be present.

The TV push for this event will be at 4pm at AV. AV is located at E2-2350. Click here to see a quick map to AV. The arrow is pointing to the approximate location of a door on that side of the building. If you’re walking to the east, the door should be the last one. If you look in and see a very long corridor, that’s the one. AV is located at the end of that corridor, at about the black dot on the map.

See you at the event.

Game On, Th October 8th, E2-1303, 5pm to midnight

Our first event is nearing, and it’s a Game On! Come out to E2-1303 (that is Engineering 2, room 1303) at 5pm on Thursday October 8th and play some video games.

Game Ons are our generic gaming event, anything goes at these. We’ll have a variety of games available and you can come on by and play. We’ll have some “staples” like Halo 3, Street Fighter 4 and Bomberman as well as some games that are obscure classics like bullet hell shooters and Smash Bros. If you have a game that you’d really like to play multiplayer but can’t find anyone to play with, bring it out and you’ll probably find someone.

You can find the most information about the event in the planning topic on our forums, which will contain information about what consoles and games are going to be brought in.

If you’d like to help out and bring something in, it’s preferable if you let us know so we can plan accordingly but you can just appear at the event with it if you wish.

Pre-setup (IE Pushing TVs for the event) will take place at 4pm at AV. AV is located at E2-2350. If you have no idea how to get there, have no fear!

Click here to see a quick map to AV. The arrow is pointing to the approximate location of a door on that side of the building. If you’re walking to the east, the door should be the last one. If you look in and see a very long corridor, that’s the one. AV is located at the end of that corridor, at about the black dot on the map.

If you need further instructions, either email us or contact us on the forums. Someone can help you get to AV from a place that you know.

See you at the event.
